課程概述 |
Posthumanism has opened up a new line of thinking which relinquishes the taboo on ontology and starts not only to investigate it with a renewed momentum but also to rediscover agency in the non-human. This endeavor to “equal things” brings about a revolution in the humanities, which, based on the philosophical reconceptualization of the non-human as on equal footing with the human, may at once rectify anthropocentrism and hopefully hold in check the damages wreaked on the earth by the Anthropocene. In light of recent Posthumanist theoretical insights, this course will guide students through the trajectory of how the object has undergone a transformation of its status from being inert and passive to vibrant and agential. Theoretical contributions from three major thinkers on the object—Lacan, Deleuze and Whitehead—will be examined along with lines of inquiry derived from them by other thinkers. Literary and cultural productions (such as film and visual artworks) will be enlisted to support the timeliness of this paradigm-shifting form of theoretical inquiry. |
課程目標 |
Course Objectives: (at least 50 Chinese characters or 200 English letters.)
The objectives of the course is first to familiarize students with research on the energetics and “mental” activities pertaining to the object, one of the leading edge academic research trends, by means of reading texts on the object by the three landmark thinkers, Lacan, Deleuze, and Whitehead as well as other related thinkers. More radically, it also aims to alert students to the most urgent contemporary problems caused by the Anthropocene, which is grounded in anthropocentrism and instrumental modernity. |
